Co-Designing Gender-Equitable and Disability-Inclusive Climate Infrastructure

Conventional approaches to urban climate infrastructure design often overlook the lived experiences of women, people with disabilities, and other marginalised groups, limiting equal participation in urban life. This panel focuses on practical actions for policymakers and practitioners seeking to integrate Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) into climate adaptation projects, exploring how resilient infrastructure is strengthened when it responds to climate risks and GEDSI dimensions of access, safety, livelihoods, and governance.

An interactive opening invites participants to reflect on their role in city climate action and barriers they face. GDI Hub will present its Inclusive Climate Infrastructure Design Playbook, before a moderated panel examines what inclusive infrastructure looks like in practice, where decisions go wrong, and how GEDSI survives budget pressures.

Panellists represent UN-Habitat, C40 Cities, GDI Hub, Kounkuey Design Initiative, and community organisations in Nairobi, moderated by ICSI, drawing on ICSI's Climate Resilient Infrastructure Report, GCoM's Gender and Inclusion Toolkit, and GCA's climate-resilient infrastructure guide.
