Ahead of its publication in March 2027, the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change & Cities (SR-Cities) is already helping shape urban climate conversations through early engagement by boundary organisations such as ICLEI and GCoM.
This session explores how cities communities of practices are bringing emerging insights from SR-Cities Report into their peer exchange activities so that member cities can already begin reflecting on what the SR-Cities report may mean for future policy and decision-making.
Communities of practice, such as the Kaohsiung-ICLEI Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Community of Practice (ComP), a platform connecting 15 cities across the Asia-Pacific region and one of the first city communities of practice to embed the IPCC SR-Cities into its peer exchange activities, can support collective sense-making and strengthen practical readiness for the report.
This session brings together experts from IPCC, ICLEI, GCoM, ClimateView, and GIZ, along with representatives from Kaohsiung City to reflect on how these communities of practices can help cities prepare to translate global climate science into local action, before and after the SR-Cities report is published.
