Comics and Storytelling as a communication tool

Cities today generate vast amounts of data and reports related to mobility, climate resilience, and other challenges. However, much of this information remains difficult for citizens and communities to understand, limiting meaningful participation in conversations about the future of cities. This session explores how creative storytelling and comics can transform complex urban data into accessible narratives that resonate with everyday lived experiences.

Drawing from our work at Leewardists, a visual communication studio led by architects and urban designers, the session will present examples where research and policy insights were translated into visual stories. These include projects developed with institutions such as the National Institute of Urban Affairs, the International Council on Clean Transportation, Aga Khan Agency for Habitat and Ola Mobility Institute, addressing themes such as sanitation workers, mobility and gender, and climate related urban challenges.
