Youth-Driven Climate Solutions for Urban Resilience: Learning from the "Environmental Legacy Makers Award (ELMA)" Model

Cities are increasingly facing climate challenges such as flash floods and water insecurity, affecting community resilience and quality of life. Addressing these risks requires inclusive approaches that empower local communities and diverse groups to co-create practical solutions.

The Smart Urban Water Management project, implemented by UN-Habitat and funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands, is piloting the Environmental Legacy Makers Award (ELMA). This innovative model engages Jordanian university students in developing nature-based solutions for urban hotspot areas, preparing them to become future climate leaders.

This session presents ELMA as a collaborative and replicable model that brings together local government, environmental institutions, NGOs, and youth to co-produce climate solutions. Representatives from RSCN, UN-Habitat, Greater Amman Municipality, and youth participants will share lessons learned on advancing youth-driven climate innovation.
